There are many different varieties of periodontal disease and many ways in which these variations manifest themselves. All require a visit to our periodontist to halt the progression and save the gum tissue and bone. At Russo Periodontics, we offer gum treatment for many common types of periodontal diseases, such as gingivitis, chronic periodontal disease, aggressive periodontal disease, and periodontal disease relating to systemic conditions.
Although we stress proper oral hygiene habits in order to prevent gum disease, our office specializes in periodontal therapy, offering services such as scaling and root planning, antibiotics, as well as non-surgical periodontal therapy. It is important to prevent gum disease as infection and inflammation of the tissues that support your teeth can erode the ligament and bone beneath the gums, resulting in tooth loss. Our periodontist will provide regular examinations of your gums during checkups with a periodontal probe and regular x-rays. If periodontal disease is diagnosed, we will discuss with you which of our services will best suit your individual needs for gum treatment. Non-surgical periodontal therapy may be all that’s needed, especially when caught early. This therapy removes the plague and calculus by controlling the growth of harmful bacteria, and treating conditions that may encourage gum disease. If your periodontitis is more advanced, however, periodontal scaling and root planning may be required. Scaling is a procedure that meticulously removes the plague and tartar deposits at and under the gum line, while root planning then smooths the root’s surfaces so that the supportive tissues can better attach to the tooth surface. This is done with local anesthesia to aid in your comfort. As with most other bacterial diseases, an antibiotic may be administered to help control, reduce, or eliminate the harmful bacteria.
We will take the time to customize and personalize the treatment for each patient. Our practice strives to ensure our patients have a pleasant experience, and are sent home with a bright, beautiful, healthy smile. Taking care of your teeth is vital to your oral and overall health. So whether your periodontal disease needs only simple, non-surgical therapy or requires a deeper cleaning with scaling and root planning, gum treatment from our periodontist will transform your teeth, gums, and mouth so that you leave our office smiling.
