The term “gum grafting” can sound a little scary. However, at Russo Periodontics, you will receive the best periodontal care using the most advanced techniques, equipment, and materials. We have a team of highly experienced Siesta Key periodontist, and will be sure to make your entire experience is as comfortable and anxiety-free as possible. And that all begins by educating our patients on this procedure.
There are many different varieties of periodontal (gum) disease and many ways in which these variations manifest themselves. Gingivitis is among the most common. However, all forms of gum disease require immediate treatment by their periodontist to halt the progression as infection and inflammation of the tissues that support your teeth can erode the ligament and bone beneath the gums, resulting in tooth loss and gum recession. If you have advanced periodontitis, for example, your gum tissue may not respond to nonsurgical treatments and good oral hygiene. In that case, treatment may require gum grafting from our Siesta Key periodontist to have some of the damaged soft tissue reinforced. This is usually done by removing a small amount of tissue from the roof of your mouth (palate) or another donor source and attaching it to the affected site. This procedure can help reduce further gum recession, cover exposed roots, and give your teeth a more pleasing appearance.
Our Siesta Key periodontist will provide regular examinations of your gums during checkups with a periodontal probe and regular x-rays. If periodontal disease is diagnosed, we will discuss with you which of our services will best suit your individual needs for periodontal treatment. A gum graft may be necessary to protect your teeth from the damaging effects of gum recession, or you may choose to have one to improve the appearance of your smile.
